Two days ago we sent out a note of enormous THANKS to our newsletter subscribers for all their votes in the recent Canadian Real Estate Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards. We took home TWO awards … which is pretty cool! We won for the best real estate investing website AND the best investor. It’s truly an honour and we also want to thank our blog readers that voted! It means a lot to us!
I had to laugh at the thought of some people reading the magazine thinking about how wonderful and easy our lives must be now that we’ve reached an award winning level. Regular readers of our blog probably know that’s not the case, but I still thought you might enjoy a spontaneous look at what a typical day finds us doing. So yesterday we pulled out our camera and shot a quick video just as we were getting rolling on our project for the afternoon.
Consider this your own personal sneak peek into a typical day living life as the best real estate investor and the co-creators of the best real estate investing website:
Wish we could tell you that it was an unusual day and that most days are spent on our yacht or flying to Paris on our private jet, but the reality is that our lives are not THAT glamorous (and truthfully the successful real estate investors we personally know aren’t living that kind of life either – no matter how much money they’ve made). We get our hands dirty on a regular basis. We are now at a point where we hire out 80% of the work but sometimes we have to do it ourselves to keep things on schedule or get it done in a pinch (which is what happened yesterday).
So we spend a Friday afternoon cleaning yucky toilets and covering ourselves in dry wall dust every once in awhile. That part doesn’t matter because we are loving life and the freedom we get to enjoy thanks to the odd day of dirty work!!
Yes, we had the pleasure of cleaning toilets, scrubbing floors and washing windows on a Friday afternoon but on Sunday we’re making our way up to our newly purchased condo in Whistler to ski for a few days before we fly to Phoenix for a conference.
Real estate might not be glamorous but we have a lot of extra time to do the things we want to do, a little extra money to afford those things, and we get to do them together!! Besides, my parents owned a motel while I was growing up and I have cleaned a lot of toilets in my day. Some weekends I would clean 40 of them in exchange for a pay check of about $90. Yesterday I only cleaned one toilet and I can tell you that I am making a WHOLE lot more money for cleaning that one toilet than I ever made for cleaning 40!
Have a great weekend!!
p.s. If you missed it … we were on a winning streak this week as I also won the Canadian Real Estate Blog Carnival for my post about the real estate agent who had his Mommy call our agent regarding our “crummy offer”. Thanks to Rachelle over at LandlordRescue.ca for hosting again!! Great carnival as usual.
