Are YOU Canada’s NEXT Best Investor??
Phew!! What a week and it’s only Wednesday (and Monday was a holiday!) …
We just closed on a very special property on Tuesday! The latest buy, a mixed use commercial building, is going to be our new office AND our new home. We’re looking forward to having official office space without having more than a 12 step commute. (And yes, I will have pictures soon!!)
That said, yesterday was one of the most annoying closings we’ve ever experienced.
While this property has a residential component that will be our home, it also has a street front that will be our office. It’s commercial designation made it a little tricky to deal with even though it’s going to be our home!
Plus, commercial real estate has some funny things about it (like the bank needs it’s own lawyer and we had to pay for it). When there was a hiccup and we weren’t given access at noon as per the contract, it took us four hours to resolve the issue. There were so many extra people involved that it was impossible to get to the bottom of it easily.
Our new realtor drained his phone battery with all the calls he had to make to get us the darn keys! I’m sure our old realtor – who left to fly the skies with WestJet – was very glad she wasn’t there for that mess.
Anyway – we got in eventually, got the quotes for the work we want to get done and it’s ours now. All that is left is the moving! 
Now we’re getting ready to take a little time off and then move/settle in. Before I did that though I wanted to make sure you knew about everything Canadian Real Estate Magazine has going on.
The Investor Forum – Be There!! Or You’ll Be Missing Out!
First of all … The Investor Forum is happening in Vancouver on November 12th & 13th.
If you’re in Western Canada you should be marking your calendar, booking your flight and getting there!
The quality of information you’re going to get from these two days is going to knock your socks off. And, knowing many of the speakers personally, I can tell you that this will be the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation and network with them and fellow investors.
While it’s always nice to meet the speakers at the event, this is always a big opportunity for you to network. Remember how we’re ALWAYS telling you to attend local club meetings and get active to meet other investors?? I can’t think of a better opportunity to find other folks interested in real estate investing than at this conference.
Trust me – some folks will be there with money looking for partners just like you might be there with deals looking for investors! You won’t know until you come out and start meeting people!
I can tell you that Canadian Real Estate Magazine does an exceptional job of attracting a great quality audience. The people coming up to our table and chatting with us were action taking real estate investors – they weren’t just casually interested in real estate. They were my kind of people.

We’re taking a bit of time off to enjoy the summer and get settled into the new place so I’ll be quiet for a bit … but I will be back!!
Oh … I am not sure if I mentioned … I will be speaking at the forum again!! They invited me back. I am excited and honoured to get on Canadian Real Estate Magazine’s stage again. I’ll be sharing tips on raising money for your deals: JV money and private funds. I’ll have a little story about a JV partnership that didn’t work out so well for us and lessons for raising money so you’re never walking from a deal because of lack of money. That’s just my presentation. Our friend Wade Graham is going to talk about using social media as a real estate investor, our friend Tahani Aburaneh is going to share her inspirational story of what she overcame to succeed, plus you’ll get a chance to hear from great real estate authors like Don R Campell and Douglas Gray , Dave’s business mentor Greg Habstritt, and even an Olympian!! It’s going to rock. Hope to see you there.
Or … maybe see you sooner at the Warrior Dash in Whistler this week … I have quite possibly lost my mind for signing up for this race. But more on that another day.
